Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Cell Phone Batteries
No matter what fancy features your cell phone has, the battery is really the lifeline of your phone. As manufacturers wake up to this realization, the war for effective cell phone battery designs is heating up. Scientists are experimenting with using manganese in today’s lithium-ion batteries, which could help reduce charging times considerably. For example, recently a lithium-ion battery was created that recharged 90% recharged in about two minutes. While we may see such super-charging batteries in the future, that technology is still in the pipeline. Meanwhile, here are some tips that could help you get the most out of the batteries currently on the market:
* Fully charge the battery when using it for the first time: Put your battery on full charge through a complete circle before you first use it. Look up the manual for the number of hours your phone should be charged and use that as a guide for the first charge. It makes sense not to completely drain a lithium-iron battery, as that will drastically cut down its lifetime. Is the battery becoming unusually hot during a charge? Is it holding the charge for fewer hours than it used to? These are all indicators of battery failure and they tell you that you might need a new one soon.
* Switch off your phone when you are not using it: This is the simplest and most obvious solution. While the phone is on during most parts of the day, it makes sense to switch it off after work or when you are resting. If you cannot bear to have the phone shut off, put it on silent mode and explore energy-saving features such as the ability to switch off the backlight.
* Be careful when charging inside a car: The temperature inside a car should not be too warm when you are using a car charger. Wait for the temperature inside to cool down, since high temperature is harmful for batteries.
* Test a battery for use: The manufacturer claim sometimes does not match up to real-life conditions. You might have a smart phone with energy-burning technologies such as Wi-fi, Infrared, and Bluetooth. Having these technologies turned on will invariably reduce the battery output of your phone. So test the battery in the actual environment in which you will be using it, before buying.
This handy list of do’s and don’ts will go a long way in promoting the life of your cell phone batteries.
