Hp Laserjet 2200 – Duplex Printer With Fast Infrared

With almost double the overall print speed of its predecessor, the HP LaserJet 2100, HP’s second model in the series improved greatly on the existing hardware with the HP LaserJet 2200. This infrared laser printer unit also includes duplex printing, another feature not previously seen in this line of HPs, making it one of the more prolific small laser devices of its day.

A print speed of 18 pages per minute places the HP LaserJet 2200 in a notch far above the 2100’s 10 PPM. Not only will speeds be even faster by a slight amount with letter sized paper by up to a page per minute (18 PPM for legal sized), but with HP technology, quality does not have to suffer at full speed.

HP’s REt resolution enhancement technology adjusts the size and placement of every printed pixel to smooth angles, edges, and curves for lower resolution 300 and 600 dot per inch print projects, or users can choose to set the HP LaserJet 2200 to true 1200 x 1200 dots per inch with no loss in top speed.

A built in duplexor will, when in use, drop print speed down to around 5.5 pages per minute, but will automate the double sided printing process, providing professional looking two sided output, as well as reducing paper costs by virtually half.

Paper handling abilities are not only strong with the HP LaserJet 2200, but expandable, and flexible, as well. An adjustable single sheet pull down tray accepts special media types such as custom letterhead, envelopes, labels, transparencies, post cards, and selectable, custom media types.

An adjustable 250 sheet paper tray comes standard with the unit, and an additional tray is optional and available in a 250 sheet or 500 sheet size. Unlike most other printers, the HP LaserJet 2200 comes equipped with not one but two output bins, one in the front and one in the rear, which can be selected based on convenience.

The printer supports an older form of wireless printing from its Fast InfraRed port. This pre-bluetooth feature allows users with IrDA compliant devices, such as older laptops, PDAs, cameras, and even cell phones, to connect to the printer through an infrared signal and print straight from the device.

Standard connectivity options include a bidirectional ECP type B parallel port, a USB port, and an EIO slot. The device also comes with either 8 MBs or 16 MBs of built in RAM, depending on the exact model number, and allows memory expansion via two built in DIMM slots up to a total of either 72 MBs or 42 MBs, again, depending on the model.

HP’s UltraPrecise toner cartridges provide extra sharp text and graphics, while the HP LaserJet 2200 also offers the unique feature of being used exclusively as a check printing machine, and a special toner cartridge for printing checks is also available. While the HP LaserJet 2200 is a rapidly aging model in a long series of personal monochrome laser devices, its admirable specifications keep it situated as a worthwhile office appliance.
