Telephone Cable confusion: Handset Cord (coiled) vs. straight cord that plugs into the wall. Please help!?

The coiled cord that goes from my handset to my phone is called an RJ-11 cord, I’m told. The straight cord that goes from my phone to my wall is also called an RJ-11 cord (or so they tell me). The problem is that the plug that goes into my handset is smaller than the plug that goes into my wall. I can plug the coiled cord into my Wall Jack, but I cannot plug the wall jack into my phone handset because the jack is too narrow.
I need to buy a short, straight (non-coiled) handset cord. The plug needs to be the smaller version; it is narrower than the plug that goes into my wall. I could use the coiled version — as these apparently fit fine. But I need to use a short, straight version of this same cord if I can find one. Radioshack, Amazon.com, none of these places have been very helpful.

Figures there’s confusion in the terminology.
Connectors used to connect a phone to the wall are typically 6 position jacks. The connector used to attach a handset to base are 4 position jacks.
The standard tells you the application. Thus, RJ11 applies to a single phone line through a 6 position 2 conductor (6P2C) jack. RJ14 uses a 6P4C jack for 2 line use, RJ25 uses 6P6C for 3 line use.
Handset cords are governed by RJ9, which use 4P4C jacks. It’s almost impossible to find a non-coiled handset cord because of the way it tends to be used. If you pull too hard on a straight cord, you put stresses on the jack that may eventually cause the cord to pull out. Could be the wire coming out of the jack. The jack ripping out of the handset or base.
If you really need a non-coiled handset cord, look for RJ9 or 4P4C connectors, find a roll of phone station cable, and crimp those connectors consistently.
